Note: All certification/inspection requirements are available at an additional cost and must be requested at the time of order placement. Please to request CMTRS with your purchase. An Insulcap friction fit cover may also be requested to prevent excessive heat-loss due to low ambient temperatures, rain, wind, etc. Please contact for further details.

The Spirax Sarco BTD52L Clean Steam Trap is a Thermo-Dynamic Steam Trap that is suitable for aggressive condensate often found in clean steam systems using deionized water. Within the BTD52L steam trap condensate and air are discharged at saturated steam temperature without the need for a water seal. Thermodynamic steam trap are an extremely robust steam trap with a simple mode of operation. The only moving part is the disc above the flat face inside the control chamber/cap. Thermo-Dynamic Traps are compact, simple, lightweight and have a large condensate capacity for their size. Featuring all stainless steel construction, these traps can be used on high pressure and superheated steam and will not be affected by water hammer or vibration.

Thermodynamic traps are not damaged by freezing and are unlikely to freeze if installed with the disc in a vertical plane and discharging freely to atmosphere. However, operation in this position may result in wear of the disc edge. As the disc is the only moving part, maintenance can easily be carried out without removing the trap from the line, and the audible "click" which occurs as the trap opens and closes makes trap testing very straightforward.

The BTD52L Steam Trap is ideally installed in a horizontal line as close as possible to equipment or pipeline being drained. For freeze proof or self-draining installations, or where horizontal fitting is not possible, the BTD52L may be installed vertically. Full-flow isolating valves should be installed upstream and downstream of the trap. This product can be maintained without disturbing the piping connections. Complete isolation of the trap from both supply and return line is required before any servicing is performed. The trap should be disassembled periodically for inspection and cleaning of the disc and seat. The only wearing parts of the trap are the disc and seat rings, which should be inspected and cleaned periodically. Slight wear can often be corrected by resurfacing on a lapping plate.
